As of March 6th, 2017, Strathroy-Caradoc Council has officially approved their budget, which includes funding to Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) Foundation of $100,000 annually for a period of two years.  This generous contribution will be used to acquire new and innovative 3D Laprascopic and Orthopedic surgical instruments.

Laprascopic equipment allows for surgeries to be performed through small incisions with the aid of a camera.  Compared to open surgery, laparoscopic approaches offer reduced pain and hemorrhaging, as well as shorter recovery times and better cosmetic results. The current 2D model at SMGH will be replaced with the updated 3D version, which will provide SMGH Surgeons, Dr. Jain, Dr. Elgamel and Dr. Ferguson with improved depth perception and visibility during procedures.

Orthopedic procedures at SMGH will also be improved, through the addition of new powered surgical devices.  These tools will provide our Orthopedic surgeons with lighter, more powerful instruments that are more comfortable to use during operations (which can sometimes last for 7-8 hours or longer).

“We are deeply grateful to The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc for their incredible commitment to local healthcare,” says Janet Grantham, SMGH Foundation Board Chair.  “We rely solely on the support of our community for the purchase of life-saving equipment, as this is not funded by the Provincial Government.”
